Animal House

Here I as an animal caretaker tell you my stories about the mice and rats that we take care of. These stories are about everyday life things in the life of these funny animals.

Funny mouse story

How true is this.

Mouse Story..a message. A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package.

"What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning.

"There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey.

The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught.

The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever. Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient.

But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbours came to sit with her around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.

The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk.

We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

Racing Stripes

What do you get when a black and a brown mouse mate?

Yes a brown mouse with black lines on it. Today with changing i noticed that the Young's of a black father and brown mother have real cool striping on their bodies and they have it all at the same spots around the back legs and back. It's funny to see. It looks like a very fashionable mouse.

Animal life

Working in an animal house is kinda fun. For me it's just a temporary job (to help out) but i can see that this job could be very satisfied.

For me the animals are the most fun. It is nice when you enter an room full of cages with mice that they come look at you when you get in front of their cage. Put stand up against the plastic and try to smell you especially when you put your head close to the cage.

Or the bond you get with a rat. A rat that every day wants some attention and loves it when you open his cage for a while. He loved to be bet and likes to stand up and smell his surroundings. And never even try to get out of his cage.

You see what i mean these animals are not here on their own free will but i often wonder if they even know that their could be a better life for them.

Water proof

It's funny but mice seem to be water resistant. It happens often that when you get the top of the cage of that a drop of water falls on a mouse. And that drop always just keeps there in one piece.

Maybe it's just the hair structure but it is pretty cool to be water repellent if you ask me.

Claw (3)

Lets do another claw story. For now the last one because i change rooms so these mice will be new to me and don't know my hand.

Ok when changing this time i put my hand closer to the side and basically forced the mice to move through it (they of course had other ways but then they needed to turn around.

So this time most mice walked under my hand and some even stayed to hide. To me this means that they really start to get used to it. Maybe i will start some new experiment with my new mice.

I keep you all informed.

Swimming 3

Ok the last post about the mouse that floods his cage.

They tried a new way to get this guy to stop emptying his bottle. They gave him a female. And guess what........

It's didn't help his is not interested at all in the female mouse his job is to keep us caretakers busy by emptying his water bottle.

He just wait for a new bottle and then start jumping up and down in the opposite corner and you just see the bottle slowly emptying out.

What a smart guy this mouse.

Shrinking mice

Some women in this world will be so jealous with mice.

You see those pregnant mice walking around all big and round (and i mean real BIG) sometimes it almost looks like they are 3 times there size.

But then another wonder on nature happens they give birth and then they are just back to their normal size. Without closely looking at these females you can't see that they gave birth. It's funny how they just shrink back to their normal size

Swimming 2

Guess what. The mouse from yesterday was wet again.

Why does this poor creature like to get wet so much?

A well he got a dry cage and a new water bottle and now only hope it will be dry for a while.

I put some food in his cage (instead of only in the feeder) and that seem to keep him
busy for a bit.
